How should I prepare for my appointment?Before your appointment, there are a few things to keep in mind for optimal results. Firstly, refrain from using active skincare products like Retinol or AHA/BHAs for at least three days prior to your procedure. Also, avoid strenuous exercise and heavy alcohol consumption within 24 hours leading up to your appointment, as well as steering clear of caffeine on the day of. It's advisable to abstain from alcohol for a full day beforehand to minimise the risk of bruising and swelling post-treatment due to its blood-thinning properties. Additionally, take precautions to safeguard your skin 48 hours prior by avoiding UV exposure, sunbeds, fake tanning products, and any skin peels. If you're using retinol or retinoid topical treatments, cease usage 72 hours before your appointment. Ensure you're well-hydrated and rested beforehand to promote plump, hydrated skin and aid in the healing process. For those prone to cold sores, consider starting antiviral medication two weeks before your appointment to reduce the risk of eruptions at the injection site. It's important not to wear makeup on the treated area to your appointment, as this can increase the risk of infection. Likewise, avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or using hair removal products on the treated area to minimise sensitivity and discomfort during the procedure. Lastly, consider taking Arnica supplements or incorporating fresh pineapple into your diet seven days prior to your appointment, as both contain Bromelain, which can help reduce bruising. What should I do after my appointment?Steer clear of makeup for up to 12 hours post-treatment. Stay away from direct sunlight, saunas, and steam rooms for two weeks afterward. You might experience temporary tenderness, swelling, or bruising around the injection sites, which may last up to two weeks. The filler may look a bit lumpy and uneven during the first 5-7 days due to swelling and the healing process, this is normal and should settle down over time. Don't apply pressure or massage the treated area for 4 days post-treatment. If you experience swelling you may gently apply a cool compress. Skip smoking and limit alcohol intake after treatment. For lip filler appointments if you smoke, vape or use a straw please ensure you do not press hard with your lips. Arnica gel or tablets from the pharmacy can help with healing. Sleep on your back the night after the procedure to avoid disrupting the filler. If you're in pain, stick to regular paracetamol and avoid ibuprofen or aspirin. The duration of the effect varies for each person, depending on factors like skin type and muscle activity. You may need combination or successive treatments for the best results. Avoid activities or situations that cause excessive sweating.
